The two main types of coatings used for coil coating include liquid and powder coatings. Aluminium coil coating line supplier LITONG offers you different levels of durability and performance and meets different aesthetic requirements.

Liquid coatings

Liquid coatings must meet a number of basic requirements to be successfully applied:
1 Easy application to provide a uniform appearance and defect-free films even on the fastest production lines.
2 A very short curing time during which the pigment colour remains stable.
3 Flexibility that enables the coated metal to bend without cracking or loss of paint adhesion.

In the early stages of coil coatings, alkyd resins, solution vinyl resins and, to some extent, epoxy resins held a significant market share. Solution vinyls were particularly popular for their excellent bonding properties, polyesters allowed coaters to significantly expand their pallet of colour and gloss products, and silylated polyesters greatly improved the long-term durability of exterior metal panels.


Powder Coatings

Powder coatings can be described as "solid coatings" which melt to form a continuous film on the substrate.
These coatings are easily applied by electrostatic or frictional electrostatic spraying to cover the item being painted. As the thickness of the coating increases, the coating is self-limiting and therefore a uniform film thickness can be achieved. Powder coated articles are cured when the powder melts and flows out to form a continuous film and then reacts chemically to become a solid inert coating.  


Thin films

Films are used instead of lacquers where a very high aesthetic quality is required. There are four main types of film: Polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polyfluoroethylene, thermoplastic acrylic and polyethylene terephthalate (PET).
Their advantages include high flexibility and suitability for deep drawing, often with a very high gloss and good hardness.
